If you feel like a break from the endless Nasi Goreng and Bakso, there are plenty of options for high quality yet inexpensive restaurants with food from all around the world.
Here is a curated list of restaurants by cuisine. This list is for international food. For Indonesian and, specifically Balinese, food, check my guide to street food linked below, as well as a list of best local warungs.

Italian
L'Osterria - These guys do an amazing range of wood-fired pizzas along with a solid menu of pastas and risottos. A little more expensive than a more local place, This is a bit more authentic and the service is great. Its conveniently located next to a gelato bar on the corner of Jl. Monkey Forest and Jl. Pengosekan.
Uma Cuccina - A more upmarket 'Italian-inspired' restaurant in the hotel, Uma Cuccina has a quality menu for still less than you'd pay in Australia, Europe or Singapore. Their Sunday snacks and cocktail option is excellent. Website.
Black Sheep - This cafe in the expat suburb of Nyuh Kuning does a very good, inexpensive wood fired pizza. Facebook.
Portofino - Another relatively new restaurant, Portofino has a modern Italian menu with plenty of delicious share dishes. Their wine list is quite good (although small like most Bali menus) and their cocktails are fun and interesting. Instagram
Ciao Nonna - This new restaurant on busy Pengosekan Road has a calm and quiet space out the back where you can dine on their delicious home-made and authentic pastas. They are open for breakfast too, but I found their coffee mediocre. Go for a pasta lunch or dinner and you won't be disappointed. Website
French
La Cantine - This is a delightful spot in Nyuh Kunung, south of the monkey forest, where the entire french community of Ubud are often found. Great meat and cheese platters, a small but excellent selection of international wine, and delicious deserts makes this feel like a proper Parisian cafe. Facebook.
Kebun - The Kebun Bistro is a mid-level spot in town on Jl Hanoman. Its extensive menu is excellent - try the tapas menu to share. The wine list could be better for a French place but at least they have international wines by the glass, and their cocktail list is also large. Website.
Mediterranean
Olive - Excellent Greek / Lebanese style cooking in lower Jl. Monkey Forest in a fun interior. They sometimes do an awesome mussels night so check their Instagram.
Rise - Turkish cafe in a local spot opposite my favourite Masseur (Jero at Ubud Spa - see post). Asli runs a lively little restaurant with home cooked Aegean-cuisine and amazing baklava. Website.
Awake - Also in Jl Sukma Kesuma is a Turkish place in direct competition with Rise. Its similar in quality, with slightly different menu. Breakfast here is particularly good. Website.
Japanese / Sushi
Kyoka Japanese Kitchen - This is lovely spot in central Ubud with excellent cocktails and modern Japanese cuisine. Facebook.
Tygr - An upmarket sushi place in Penestanen. Expect to see the more affluent expats enjoying high quality sushi and sashimi. Website.
Kagemusha - This gem is tucked away in south Ubud but I think this is the best or at least most authentic Japanese in Ubud, run by a lovely Japanese couple. Website.
Toro - On delightful Jalan Goutema in central Ubud, this sushi place is cheap and cheerful and high quality. Facebook.
Raman Bar - Opening soon on Jl. Pensokan.
Korean
Satu Mangkok - Meaning One Bowl, this authentic place on Jl. Summa Kesuma is run by a lovely Korean couple and serves fun Korean street food super cheap. They have a pleasant upstairs area for those who can stand sitting on the floor for their meals. Instagram.
Cloud Nine - Funny place in a funny spot up in Kedewatan, this restaurant serves very good and very authentic (according to my Korean-loving friend) standards like Bibimbap and spicy friend chicken. Instagram.
Thai
Birdnest - I haven't been yet but my Thai friend says it's excellent. Look up Birdsnest Thai Kitchen in google maps.
Indian
Pesona - Amazing Indian food in a great location and gorgeous building on Jl. Gautama. Not the cheapest eats in Ubud but always a good meal, with a large and innovative menu, delicious cocktails and excellent service. Website.
Indian Delites - Not as fancy, innovative or as expensive as Pesona, Indian Delites is nevertheless high quality, authentic and delicious Indian food. From the outside it looks like a suburban western Indian restaurant but pop upstairs and there's an amazing outlook over the Campuhan ridge. Go in the early evening for a lovely view with your G&T.
Chai of the Tiger - A delightful little Indian street food place on Jl Sukma. Great samosas, dosas and, of course, chai. Awesome for lunch.
Apsara - On Jl. Goutama, this tiny upmarket Indian eatery is fun, lively in the evenings and authentically delicious. I love the thaali in the mornings but the menu goes down well with a G&T later in the evening too.
Chinese
Golden Monkey - This large place in town is quite good, but over-priced in my opinion, although they are now doing all you can eat dim sum on the weekends for 250k.
Fu shou noodle club - fab little hole in the wall on Jl Andong. Great noodles and dumplings in fun surrounds. Many dishes are super spicey so be careful!
Double Dragon Temple - this place, on Jl Dewa Sita, is new so I haven't been but apparently the dumplings are excellent.
Pan Asian
Ibu Susu - Another great restaurant with excellent cocktails, Ibu Susu has a gorgeous interior, is conveniently located on Jl. Monkey Forest and has an excellent menu of modern Asian cuisine. Website.
Hongalia - Super cheap hand-made noodle place serving my favourite Bakmie.
You and Mie - Very fun, very cheap, lovingly hand-made noodles from a lovely Javanese expat and her family. They don't deliver but do takeaway if you bring your own container! It's also fun to eat in their little warung on Jl. Sukma Kesuma.
Mexican
There were a number of great Mexican places and taquerias in town before the pandemic but sadly most were forced to close. If you are craving Mexican, Taco Casa on Jl. Pengosekan serves casual and 'okay' Mexican. Over on Jl. Bisma, Taco Fiesta is a slightly higher quality and more authentic Mexican place with some tasty favourites. Cilantro on Jl. Nyuh Kuning is cheap and cheerful.
Steak and Ribs
The Grill - Delicious ribs and steak on Jl. Tirta Tawar. Relatively reasonably priced with a fun atmosphere, often with a band.
Cupit - Even better and cheaper ribs out near Penestanan. Facebook.
Pison - Also a great brunch place, in the evenings Pison is good for cocktails and a comprehensive, high quality western and Indonesian menu. Instagram.
Batubara - The word for coal in Indonesia, this excellent steak house is one of the best I've been to anywhere and it's very reasonable. Website

Eastern European
Usha - A substantial menu including sweet and savoury crepes, borsch, traditional soups and delicious dumplings. They also have a nice selection of sweets and baked goods, and the cafe is usually filled with draft-dodging Russians enjoying some home cooked favourites. Instagram
ShamanaMana - A fairly standard western menu with a Ukrainian bent, Shamanamana in Jl. Bisma is super kid friendly. There is a huge play area and lots of games. The number of kids in there at any given time means its not as calm as elsewhere, but the coffee is good and the food is substantial and reasonable. Instagram
Seafood
667 Seafood - There aren't a lot of seafood options in Ubud (being an inland town) but this super fun outdoors market-style warung is excellent. The fish and shellfish is brought in fresh from Jimbaran every day and cooked by the excellent team on the grill.
Others
There are of course many more western style restaurants. I either haven't been or couldn't recommend them due to quality or price. There are also loads more that sadly closed during the pandemic and may still open again.
